I am from the bottom of the middle-classed,
from the hood to say the least.
I am from Starter caps, Nikes, and Cadillacs,
from rosebushes and evergreens.
I am from Laura and Rudy,
their very passionate love.
I am from doing the electric slide at block parties,
roasting sessions in the kitchen,
witnessing wrong but never snitchin’/
I am from the real,
from “Chill cuz.” and “Fallback fam.”
I am from praying and having faith in my god,
from not splitting poles and walking under ladders
I am from ma’s cooking,
Tacos, Chicken, Pancakes, and Cheese Eggs.
I am from the fake tattoo at the cookout,
neck fractures and making the net on the court snap.
I am from the houses that lean,
dealing dope, chilling outside, and rolling dice.
I am from the girls in bikinis when its hot out at the pool,
from nothing but a hoodie in the middle of a Nor’easter.
I am from where you have to make it out of,
